Often, there is a sadness in our soul. At other times, there is a gathering sense of frustration. And they can feed off each other. Are you feeling this way? If so, the first step is to gain perspective on it.

There are deeper dimensions to these conditions other than the circumstances or people we point our fingers at? We have a short, or long list of all the reasons that justify our sadness, or our frustration. But there is no empowerment in these reasons.
The sadness and frustration only persists and, for many, becomes almost a permament backdrop within self-awareness. It can even lead to depression. It might actually feel like depression.
One way to look at this is from the perspective of energies stagnating in the chakras, our spiritual energy centers. We need to get the energy moving. And we need to clean up, internally, that is.
As humans, emotions drive us. Literally! The word itself contains “motion” so it makes sense. But there are two sides to emotion. It can be a two-edged sword that can cut both ways.
On the one hand, emotions can originate from deep aspects of self, what we might also call our soul. These are our deeper sensitivities, our empathy with others, even our desire to be selfless.
On the other hand, emotions can be generated by the structures of our ego, by our complexes, our fears, our selfishness, our unattended needs, our unresolved conflicts.
The former can help cut through our egoic, self-centeredness and inspire us towards more enlightened spiritual actions. The latter can pull us down and keep us trapped in self-destructive tendencies nurtured by our own self-delusions.
Do you find yourself repeatedly sabotaging your own sincere intentions for personal growth despite your best intentions and efforts? And could there be an energy component to this vicious cycle? Yes, there is!
My complexes and self-delusions were intense as a teenager. In fact, they created sufficient momentum to make a really serious attempt on taking my own life. I survived, of course, but the real perspective and the methodology to effectively deal with my inner conditions came a year later, when I became a monk and started studying and practicing Tantric Yoga on the banks of a sacred river in southern India.
The knowledge of chakras, the energy centers of our spiritual body, is from the tradition of Tantra that understands the world and all that is within it as comprised of energy. This is in perfect sync with present-day science, specifically quantum mechanics.
What if our actions (including all our thoughts, words, images) leave a sort of psychic deposit in the deeper structures of our being, our “energy body” so to speak? How would that affect us?
Imagine these deposits growing in energy mass with repeated and reinforced actions: our habits! And then imagine energy being released from these deposits and fuelling our emotions, specifically the kind that repeatedly is saboating our lives.
After five years of monastic training, I married and came West, where, for the last 25 years I’ve taught spirituality, especially energy-based forms of it widely across America and internationally. My understanding of how to effectively use yogic pratices to work with energy in western society and culture has grown and deepened not only in improving the quality and conditions of my own life but the lives of many of my students.
There is a way to cleanse ourselves of negative energy deposits, certainly to reduce their influence in our lives because, otherwise, they remain part of our own energy body that we carry around everywhere.
